Local Law Enforcement
Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement state they were contacted late on Wednesday night, when a individual observed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish liquid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Police then found multiple other vandalized cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police say preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they stated.
City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the case" and have appealed to the public for tips.
A senior official said the incident left him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a shooter aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
